Red Balloon Challenge →
I’m still posting DARPA info and the review is done. Anyway the listings for the red balloon challenge. Amazing that MIT did it in less than 9 hours after the balloons were let up.

Its unfortunate I didn’t post this before the review but it is still a good interview with great photography.
Red Balloons
Link from Kazys:
Tomorrow morning, people across the US will start hunting for 10 weather balloons hidden across the country by the Pentagon’s research agency DARPA.
The treasure hunt is designed to test how well people can coordinate with one another online and will award $40,000

This specifically deals with evil. I think it could be good for all.
David Galipeau has been involved with the internet since it’s inception. Having worked on DARPA and the EU Commission Framework IV projects, he has developed an interested in learning behaviors, knowledge management and communication channel strategy and integration models. He is interested in how information and...

Maybe I have an infatuation with buildings that look like a big head on a small stem. This building is really quite amazing.

wow.
This is extremely ironic, I really hope this guy gets the full 10 years. He’s an ER doctor so who knows. Its tangent evil, not really concerning DARPA.

So I was put on CNNMoney.com today. When questioned about my feelings towards the job market for upcoming graduates in 2010 my response was quite positive. It doesn’t come off that way in the video, but thats corporate CNN editing. The video is titled “Class of 2010: Looking For Work”
I’m not really “looking” yet but I am definitely thinking about work and...

I’m not sure if this is evil or just gross but its what I was talking about yesterday for the review.

For Eric -
Every secure enclosure, whether it’s a castle, a complex, or an entire country, defines a perimeter of concern: We’re safe inside; the rest of you are on your own. A car bomb might peel off the federal tower’s “sacrificial façade,” shatter the glass-walled skyscrapers next door, and crater First Avenue, but America’s...

Was on TED and found this which is an addition to the post I put up for you about 3 weeks ago concerning Edward Burtynsky’s work.

6 AM iPhone Ramble
This is a black box. Slightly brown very few windows if any. The architecture is a mix between the Long Lines building and a bunker. The building succeeds at keeping DARPA tech a secret but fails at appearing open and accessible. To be open is unnecessary. It is shard like. Something like a shield. An iron curtain. Digital screens lie at the base showing the history of modern technology. People...

Ken Auletta
For Mike and myself,
I should’ve linked on Tuesday.

Kazys mentioned Ken Auletta on Monday and I think Mike can benefit from this video as I have.

This is where I’m looking to operate.
This is a simple explanation of the internet, its history, our interaction with it, and its future. Finishing with a very good question.

Department of Mad Scientists
So I purchased the book and started reading. I guess this is my review of the first chapter as I don’t have a lot of time to read everything in it (being that we now have less than a month to finalize, concretize and produce concept and the architecture of our evil client) but it seems just from the first chapter that the author gives nothing but praise to the organization speaking of...

DARPA HQ
So I completed my Anti-Terrorism Level 1 Awareness Training and have been awarded a certificate. After reviewing and answering all questions correctly I feel that the test has made me more aware. Or maybe more afraid. Looking at many of the examples in history of terrorism across the globe has made me think long and hard about ways in which DARPA’s new headquarters should respond to threats...
Anti-Terrorism Level 1 Training System
I updated this with the proper link.
Welcome to AT Level I Awareness Training.
September 11, 2001 was a horrific day that is forever seared in the Nation’s memory. Since that day, the United States has been engaged in a Global War on Terror - a war to protect the Nation’s freedoms. The Global War on Terror is being fought by virtually every agency within the US Government....

Bunkers for DARPA →
As I read more and more about DARPA, the design of the space for their new headquarters pushes me further and further into the realm of security and defense. Not for borders of our country and homeland security in general but for the security of DARPA’s research and the scientists they fund. I happened upon this link which shows some historic bunkers built during WWII with writing by Virilio...

Ha Ha Ha America
I saw this a few years ago. Clever video in my opinion and sadly so true.
Is there a benefit to evil?
I guess one of the questions we will have to answer throughout the course of the semester is, how does your architecture deal with the idea of evil? Or what does your architecture do to respond to your client’s malevolent desires? With that being said I can only suppose that at some point we will have to ascribe some good, or mockery, or even cynicism into the project we choose that can...
